Back to Delhi
We had an early morning wake-up call to return to the Taj Mahal for a sunrise shoot. What a difference a day makes! Todays throng was much more European centric, with a lot of the women decked out in their finest for social media opportunities. Along with this new mix, I didn’t get asked once to have my photo taken.
The opening reminded me somewhat of Epcot with people running to get their spot for the sunrise. I found a location I liked then waited for it to peep through. It’s funny how tourist seem to think their shot is the most important, asking others who had paid the same price fo admission to move. I got what I wanted then moved on.
This morning I took advantage of our time here to visit the main tomb. No photos are allowed inside and you’re herded in a circle to see the intricate inlay work of precious precious and semi-precious gems. There’s no painting, just the inlay. I’m very glad I took the time to visit. I wondered around a bit more but I mostly had visited the places I wanted the night before.
We returned to our hotel for a breakfast buffet before we boarded the bus for our return to Delhi. We made one stop which had one of our American favorites, Kentucky Fried Chicken, before continuing our drive.
We stopped at Qutb Minor in Delhi to visit the second most popular tourist attraction in this region. Known for its stone tower, first arch, and iron pole that never rusts, the complex houses some pretty interesting columned structures that dates back to the 12th century. This was again a place where the tourists were mostly Indian which we were a novelty again. A group of guys I would guess in their 20's each wanted a selfie with me and then they wanted me to take photos of them.
We ate at the Indian restaurant tonight, Dhabi, in the hotel and it was excellent. Nothing was too spicy but it all had a nice 'kick'. I retired early to try to get a full nights sleep even though we have a bit of time before departing tomorrow.
Tomorrow: Off to Jaisalmer
